Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the marcus. mobile application ("the app"). By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. Description of Service

marcus. is a Stoic philosophy application that provides curated quotes from ancient philosophers, original podcast content, reading guides for classical texts, guided teachings, and a personal journaling tool. The app is designed for educational and personal development purposes.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this app. If you are under 18, you represent that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian to use the app. By using the app, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements.

3. User Accounts

Certain features of the app may require you to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

Public domain texts: The app includes translations of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations (Casaubon translation, 1634; Rouse revision, 1906), Epictetus's Discourses and Enchiridion (George Long and Thomas Wentworth Higginson translations), and Seneca's Moral Letters (Richard Mott Gummere translation, 1917–1925). These translations are in the public domain and may be freely used.

Original content: All original content created for the app — including but not limited to podcast episodes (Doctrine and Letters series), episode scripts, editorial commentary, teaching descriptions, design elements, illustrations, and user interface — is the exclusive intellectual property of marcus. and is protected by applicable copyright laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from this content without our prior written consent.

User content: Journal entries and personal notes you create within the app remain your property. By using the app, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store and process your content solely for the purpose of providing the app's functionality to you. We do not claim ownership of your journal entries.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the app in any manner that is unlawful, harmful, or inconsistent with these Terms. Specifically, you agree not to: reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app; use the app to distribute malware or engage in any activity that could harm the app or other users; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the app or its systems; use automated means (bots, scrapers, or similar tools) to access the app or extract content.

6. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

The app may offer in-app purchases or subscriptions for premium content and features. All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and conditions. Prices are displayed in your local currency before purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You may manage your subscriptions through your Apple ID account settings. Refund requests must be directed to Apple, as we do not process payments directly.

7. Disclaimers

The content provided in the app is for educational and personal reflection purposes only. It does not constitute medical, psychological, legal, or professional advice. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or emergency service.

The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, marcus. and its developers, officers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or personal injury, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for certain damages, our liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to intellectual property provisions, disclaimers, and limitations of liability.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Your continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the updated Terms, you should discontinue use of the app.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Turkey, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Antalya, Turkey.
